I just did the Egypt and the Nile Tour (Nov 11th) I wold highly recommend this tour. It's fun, educational and just amazing. If you've dreamed of seeing the Pyramids and the Sphinx, Sailing down the river Nile and brushing up on your bargaining skills this is totally for you. BTW it is very rare that you get robbed in Egypt but you will be hassled by shop keepers like you have never experienced! Def. something and someplace to expereince once in a life time. Good Luck and Happy Travels.

The night life is awesome. The tour guide Sharif is the coolest guy. When I went in november we drank like crazy on the over night train to Aswan. Had a egyptian party then went and smoked shisha with the locals. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves go to:

Hi Everyone. I was just wondering if anyone recommends any vaccinations/shots prior to the trip? I'm getting different answers from different people. I guess I should ask my doctor but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Lori

Hi there ,
For Egypt its not necessary. But probiotic based food poisoning prevention capsules should be recommended.Check www.travelan.com

Also sports isotonic drinks in powder form like Gatorade should be considered. Drinking lots of water in a hot environment only quenches thirtst temporarily.
Hope this helps.

I went to my doctor, who does travel shots, last week. He all but insisted on Hepatitis A, and suggested Typhoid. Neither are required. He says he gets a lot more cases of Hep A then Typhoid.

He also gave me a prescription for Cypro incase I get travelers diariah - he said it's usually from e-coli and Cypro and imodium should do the trick.

I leave in June. My doctor gave me the Hep A and Typhoid vaccines. Typhoid is just 4 pills, you take one every other day. Also need to make sure your tetanus is up to date. He also gave me some Cypro, like cdm mentions above.

Typoid also comes in a shot form, which I got. My doctor said the pill form lasts longer (a year or two), but the shot has fewer side effects.

With the shot, you need boosters every 2 years. The pill is a live vaccine and requires a booster every 5 years.

FWIW, I just finished the series of pills, and experienced zero side effects.

I'm going in early march and checked the normal temps for my dates. In Cairo it's 72 for the high, and for Aswan 82.

My trusty travel guide says that in October in Cairo 18 for a low and 30 for a high and in the nile valley it says 19 for a low and 35 for a high. Sounds like good weather, not too hot or cold.

I would not worry about the number of people going sally. i went November 10-20, 2006 and there was 36 people on my tour. One tip for everyone on this tour, when you take the overnight train to Aswan, just party like never before because thats what we did on our tour and being the second day everyone was best friends for the rest of the trip, there were no outsiders or cliques persay.
