Have a read of this to get an idea of the cost of the optional excursions:

With regards to currency , bring sufficient USD in new notes to cover the optionals. Egypt overall is very inexpensive and you would only need at the most A$200 which is EGP 1000 to cover most things except for souvenirs on that tour. You can change A$ as well as most currencies to EGP at the airport as well.

For the Visa its a USD 15 cash sticker type at the currency exchange booth for Australian passport holders at the airport.

Its a nice blue sticker where you can paste it on any page that you like on your passport. A handy trick is to place it on a empty page in the middle and then the immigration officers can stamp it clearly on the entry and exit of the country.Otherwise it will be messy and that's a bit of a pity.

Its probably best to bring some American and Canadian$.
The American for the optionals if you decide to pay by cash and Canadian to exchange to EGP whilst over there.
There is a tipping kitty which is compulsory,Sherif the t.m is a 100% professional and does not pressure or mention anything about tipping. He runs the itenerary like a friend showing you his country.
Its totally different from that encountered on the European circuits.

Everyone did tip him though and the way we went about it was to have a collective envelope passed around and you are free to tip in either EGP/USD or any other currency. Most people just gave a token sum of between 10-15USD.
