I've noticed a couple of people from different tour dates saying that they want to stay in Egypt after the tour ends and see a bit more in Cairo or go to Alexandria.

This means finding our own accommodation, transport and places to visit.

I thought that though we may not be going on the same tours, we could pool our knowledge to find the best rates and share any tips we discover.

I've heard that the best place to stay in Cairo is Zamalek, which is where all the embassies are. It's supposed to be quieter and cleaner than downtown, with excellent restaurants and cafes.
