I'm booked now as well! 23 (well almost 24) and from Vancouver, Canada. Have you done Contiki before? Went on a 25 Day Europe one last summer and it was excellent! Looking forward to Africa!

Hi Natalie - glad to hear there's some others! I'm looking forward to Africa too ... I've never done a contiki before, but figured that Egypt was a good place to try it. Looking forward to meeting you (even though you live pretty close as it is!). I'm staying a couple days after the tour - how about you?

Not too sure yet. Maybe an extra day at the beginning or the end in Cairo (the tour is rather short and I heard that people may want more time at the pyramids).

This tour looks really good (I was reading that girls' blog who went on it a while ago and who outlines the whole thing in quite a bit of detail)and the excursions look like a lot of fun too. And I've heard it's small (only 20, while on my last one there was almost 50 of us). The Europe Contiki tour was excellent and the tour managers and drivers absolutely awesome, which is why I want to use them again. Our group was great too, just the right combo of partying/social and cultural/sightseeing without anyone being ridiculous.

Are you travelling with anyone else? Yeah, Seattle is pretty close (and so much like Vancouver in many ways, especially weather!)but it's great to meet other people. My last tour was actualy mainly Australians and only a handful of Canadians and Americans (and perhaps a Kiwi) but it was still awesome.

Anyway, you can find me on facebook (if you have it) under Natalie Hillary.

Oh last question, since you are so close what airline deals have you found to Cairo? Or are you just booking the one with Contiki?

Cheers,

Natalie

Hi Natalie, nice to hear from you!

I decided to do this one solo - partly because I couldn't find anyone else to go, but also wanted a bit of adventure and to meet some new folks. I also read some of the previous trip reports so that made the decision easy Smiler. How about you, are you travelling with anyone?

Regarding airline deals, I was actually able to use frequent flyer points on British Airways so I'm going for free (with a day in London to boot). But, most of the airfare I found from the US was around $1300 US (the cheapest I found was about $1250 from Portland, OR, via Amsterdam - but PDX might be a bit far for you). I decided to stay an extra day after the tour to see the pyramids again, and maybe the khan el-khalili again too (you don't go to Cairo that often, and I figure that if I'm sick of it I can just hang by the pool).

I'll look you up on Facebook.

Take Care,
Ryan

I'm travelling with my boy Dan :-) He's on facebook too but probably won't write on the forums here. I want to stay an extra day or two as well before the tour starts (so that I'm climatized/used to the time zone by the time our tour starts). Have you booked your extra time yet? Are you planning on doing it at the same hotel as our tour? (I heard it's slightly out of the way, but cabs can't be too expensive right?)

Thinking of doing all the optionals except the light and sound one. The air balloon looks really neat even if I am afraid of heights! I heard all the optionals are pretty good on this trip.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet more of our tour mates before it starts but I know the groups are much smaller (around 20)then a regular tour. Should be a lot of fun!

Natalie

Hey is anyone planning on doing the optionals? I think I'm doing the temple and the camel ride.

I'm probably going to do them all. I've heard that the pyramid light show is extremely cheesy, but I think it's worth it to see the pyramids at night (and more than once). Still a little iffy on the hot air balloon, but I'll probably end up doing it.
